Chinese for Affirmative Action is deeply saddened and outraged by the recent unjust and tragic killings of Black Americans that have garnered national attention, most notably the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. We also vehemently condemn the hyper-policing and violent treatment of activists, protestors and community members who are rightfully speaking out on these tragedies across the country.

As communities of color continue to come to grips with the disproportionate negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our families, communities and institutions, we call on our local and state government leaders to stand up and take action against these injustices.

Racial crimes and violence of any kind must not be tolerated. The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, which has faced rising discrimination, hate and violence in the face of COVID-19, stands in solidarity with the Black community and others who are unfairly and unjustly being targeted.

Now is the time for our vulnerable communities to stand together and speak out collectively against the systemic and entrenched racism that drives the continued hate and violence against Black Americans and communities of color. Now is the time for leaders in our government and throughout civil society to stand alongside us and seek swift justice for those responsible and implement solutions that protect all of our communities at large.
