The Latest on Birthright Citizenship
In a 6-3 decision, the conservative-majority Supreme Court avoided ruling on the constitutionality of Trump’s attack on birthright citizenship, choosing instead to focus narrowly on the issue of nationwide injunctions.
Within hours, CAA stood alongside San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu, CARECEN, Asian Law Caucus, and Norman Wong – a descendant of Wong Kim Ark – in the heart of Chinatown to denounce the court decision. This ruling opened the floodgates for the federal government to begin implementing Trump’s executive order through backdoor guidance from agencies like the State Department, putting thousands of U.S.-born children at risk of statelessness. The fight isn’t over – the case is making its way back to the Supreme Court, and we’re not backing down.

CAA Responds to ICE Arrests of Chinese Immigrants in SF
CAA responded to two separate instances of an ICE arrest of Chinese community members trying to comply with the legal process by attending their immigration court hearing in San Francisco. We know many others – especially Black, Brown, and other immigrant communities – have also been targeted in growing numbers.
These courthouse arrests are not isolated incidents; they are a part of a larger strategy by ICE to bypass due process and instill fear in immigrant communities. Contact CAA at 415-761-3222 if you or a family member have an upcoming immigration court hearing.

Say No to Cuts to Community Services!
Budget cuts across the nation are coming for community organizations – organizations that help immigrants, people of color, and low-income families. To preserve our critical services for the Chinatown community, CAA conducted 22 office visits to San Francisco supervisors, and organized public comment with 30 community members, staff, and clients. These cuts threaten crucial, life-saving services like language access and employment support. We’re standing strong with our community to say no to budget cuts to community services!

4th Annual AAPI Against Gun Violence Convening
CAA co-hosted the 4th Annual AAPI Against Gun Violence Convening in Chicago bringing together advocates, organizers, and survivors to deepen shared strategies to end gun violence. This year’s convening emphasized that gun violence is not only a public health crisis – it’s a civil rights issue. The rise in gun ownership among AAPI people – often driven by fear and misinformation – has only increased risks in our communities already facing systemic barriers to safety and justice. To help address these gaps, CAA – along with our partners – will soon launch a website with in-language resources on gun safety to meet a critical need for accurate, culturally relevant information.
