We are proud to announce that CAA is throwing our full support behind California Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act.

Here is what Prop 50 does:

  • Protects our communities, especially communities of color including Asian Americans, to make sure our government works for us — not against us.
  • Levels the playing field and gives voters the power to approve emergency voting maps to counter the latest power grab by Trump.
  • Sunsets the new maps in 2030 and preserves California’s redistricting reforms and commitment to the California Redistricting Commission.

When the stakes are this high for our democracy, standing on the sidelines is not an option for CAA. Prop 50 sends a clear message: California will fight back and defend our democracy.

Why does this matter? Because Donald Trump and his allies are once again trying to silence voters and grab power in Texas. That’s why Governor Newsom and the State Legislature put Proposition 50 on the ballot, to counter Texas’ moves and fight back.

Prop 50 gives us, the voters, the power to temporarily approve emergency voting maps and push back against Trump’s latest voter-rigging scheme. It’s about protecting communities of color, immigrant communities, and every Californian who believes in fair elections.Let’s do this together. What happened in Texas?

When Trump ordered Texas to carve out five new congressional seats to pad Republican power, it was a textbook example of rigging the system. Instead of letting voters choose their representatives, Trump pushed Texas lawmakers to manipulate district lines so that politicians could handpick their voters. This wasn’t about fair representation — it was about stacking the deck, silencing communities of color, and locking in partisan advantage. This sets the state for reforms such as California’s Proposition 50, which aimed to put a check on political gamesmanship and remind us that democracy is supposed to be decided at the ballot box, not behind closed doors.
