Every year since 2007, community members working with the San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network (SFILEN) gather at City Hall for Immigrant Family Day for community building and civic engagement. As one of the 12 founding member organizations, CAA proudly participates each year to celebrate the power and resilience of immigrant families and this year was no different.
In the face of overwhelming anti-immigrant attacks from the federal administration, community leaders stood shoulder to shoulder to share food, dance, and visit with the local Board of Supervisors to discuss our concerns as immigrant communities, and to also thank them for ensuring that San Francisco remains a Sanctuary City and a national leader on immigrant rights.
In particular, CAA staff and community members visited with Supervisor Norman Yee, who has worked on issues important to CAA community members such as the implementation of non-citizen voting in school board elections starting this November 2018. CAA and community members highlighted immigrant community concerns to Supervisor Yee and thanked him for his support and leadership.
Immigrant Family Day 2018 ended with a multilingual activity that reminded participants of our unity in struggle.
