In partnership with Chinese for Affirmative Action, San Francisco Arts Commission, and Chinese Culture Center, community artists MLin and Vida Kuang worked with seven Chinatown families to put together Our Intergenerational Stories: home, an exhibit featuring their personal narratives as working-class Chinese immigrants.
Join us for the exhibit opening this Sunday, July 7, 2019, 2 PM at 41 Ross (41 Ross Alley, San Francisco, CA 94108) with the artists present. The photography and oral storytelling exhibit will shed light on the parent artists’ stories around housing, education, community organizing, and dreams for their future.
The exhibit was born out of an oral storytelling and photography workshop series dedicated to intergenerational exchanges between and within immigrant families, where parent leaders flipped the script to become artists and narrate their own stories. At the center of this exhibit is the empowering journey taken by community leaders and their families to celebrate their resilience and build unity among differently impacted communities in the current political climate.
Joined by partner artists, MLin and Vida Kuang, Chinatown’s grassroots parent leaders will share their experiences and visions as community-based artists at the opening reception. The exhibit will be on view at 41 Ross from 11 AM to 4 PM, Thursday through Sunday, until Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
