CAA Launches Campaign in Response to School Closures in SF

SAN FRANCISCO, CAChinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) is hosting an in-person candidate forum for the San Francisco Board of Education on September 20th at Gordon J. Lau Elementary School. The school board race is one of the most watched elections this year. SFUSD is facing critical issues this year including budget shortfalls, school closures, curriculum changes, and with a recent shakeup in leadership, this forum provides an opportunity for parents and students to hear directly from the candidates about their vision for the future of our schools. 

WHO: Confirmed candidates include Matt Alexander, Min Chang, Virginia Cheung, Parag Gupta, Jaime Huling, Ann Hsu, John Jersin, Maddy Krantz, Laurance Lem Lee, Supriya Marie Ray.

WHAT: The forum will focus on key issues impacting the board of education including strengthening student safety, preserving multilingual education, and school closures and mergers.  

WHEN: Friday, September 20, 2024, 5:30 to 7:30 pm 

WHERE: Gordon J. Lau Elementary School, 950 Clay Street SF, CA 94108

This event is free. Forum will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese and Mandarin. Childcare & light refreshments available, but please register here. Attendees will have the chance to submit questions for the candidates in advance as well as in-person.

Non-citizen parents can vote in this year’s school board elections, but must register by October 21 as a non-citizen voter. You can register here.

CAA is a 501(c)(3) non profit, and we will not be endorsing any candidates. This event is a non-partisan voter education event. All candidates were invited.

加州旧金山 华人权益促进会 (CAA) 将于 9 月 20 日在 刘贵明小学 Gordon J. Lau为旧金山教育委员会举办现场候选人论坛。学校委员会竞选是今年最受关注的选举之一。旧金山联合学区今年需应对多项关键问题,包括预算短缺、关闭学校、课程变化,以及最近领导层的大改组。该论坛为家长和学生提供了一个机会,可以直接听取候选人关于我们学校未来的愿景。
