Did you know that the Trump administration is proposing to make it harder to become a U.S. citizen through raising the application cost and getting rid of the fee waiver option?
On June 23, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security posted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to raise the fee to naturalize significantly by 75% for paper filing and 78% for online filing to a total of $1,330 and $1,280 respectively.
The proposal also includes a total elimination of any fee waiver or reduced fee options for naturalization, which adversely affects low-income communities.
