This past month, CAA joined Chinese Progressive Association (CPA)’s rally in San Francisco Chinatown’s Portsmouth Square to kick-off community outreach and education initiatives for the upcoming 2020 Census. Chinatown Tenants Association, SRO Collaborative and AAJA-ALC also joined the rally to address challenges that Hard-to-Count populations to motivate participation.

The 2020 Census will be the first to heavily feature a digital survey and paper forms will only be in English and Spanish. Immigrant communities may also be discouraged to fill out the census given all the hostile actions the Trump administration has taken in recent history.

“Our full participation in the Census helps realize its potential to ensure fairness and equity in political representation and funding to resist the xenophobia emanating from the White House,” voiced Hong Mei Pang, CAA Director of Advocacy

“Immigrant communities can show our power through our numbers. We have to unite with other communities of color during the census to demonstrate democracy in action and our inclusive values.” Pang continued.

CAA urges all community members to reach out to our offices if they have any questions or need assistance in filling out the form. We will be announcing more Census initiatives in the near future.
