On September 27th, CAA launched the first of a series of events to celebrate our 50th year anniversary. Billed as a town hall, CAA convened prominent Asian American news journalists and media pioneers, many of whom were the first Asian Americans in their respective fields. Those in attendance shared their stories, progress made in addressing the lack of community representation in media, and the importance of affirmative action in their careers.

In addition to creating more equitable career opportunities, more diverse media meant better coverage of community issues. Early journalists note how they felt a responsibility to get Asian American and all issues covered in mainstream news outlets.  With the rise of social and digital media and “fake news,” others called for more inter-generational skill sharing and the need to get accurate information to our communities.

We will be hosting many more CAA50 events in the coming year. See here to learn more and stay engaged with us through our Facebook, Twitter, and emails.
