The uncertainty and threats of the last week remind us that now more than ever, we must mobilize and stand together. CAA rejects and condemns these attacks on our freedoms, the criminalization of immigrants, and reckless and dangerous militarization of our communities.

As a reminder, we have updated our English-Chinese language resources page for immigrants needing guidance during these turbulent times. Read more about how we’re showing up for Chinatown in the SF Public Press.

We’re committed to fighting for our rights and the safety of our communities. In this issue:

  • Hundreds rally to defend Chinatown against rising costs and tariffs
  • CAA mobilizes voters, champions Yes on Prop 50
  • CAA leads fight to defend birthright citizenship as California legislature votes for historic resolution
  • CAA organizes Know Your Rights Forum as Trump targets H-1B immigrant workers

You are a part of this fight. Will you join us by making a gift to CAA?

Uniting Chinatown

Chinatowns across the country are reeling from the economic pain of rising costs and tariffs, cuts to public benefits and healthcare, and pervasive fears around anti-immigrant enforcement. CAA, along with Chinese Progressive Association and Chinatown Community Development Center, are seizing this political moment to organize San Francisco Chinatown residents because our community deserves to live with dignity.

Last month, over 200 community members turned up and out to say that our voices have power, and our humanity matters.

Yes on 50! Phone Bank with Us!

Trump and his MAGA allies are already redrawing congressional maps to tilt the playing field in their favor. Texas was the first to go rogue, forcing State Rep. Gene Wu to break quorum in order to stop Trump from cheating our democracy.

That’s why Prop 50 is so urgent. It’s California’s way of leveling the playing field — making sure that if seats are stolen elsewhere, our communities don’t lose representation here. Last week, CAA organized press conferences in Los Angeles and San Francisco to get the word out as ballots dropped in California. But we still need your help – will you phone bank with us?

California Takes A Stand on Birthright Citizenship

Last month, the California State Legislature voted in support of a resolution reaffirming birthright citizenship for all children born on U.S. soil under the 14th Amendment. Big thanks to Assemblymember Alex Lee for working with CAA to move this through the Assembly and the Senate. As the Supreme Court begins a new term, it is poised to take up the issue on the merits — the legality of Trump’s executive order banning birthright citizenship. Over the summer, the lower courts continued to block the administration from executing the policy as new lawsuits were filed in federal court.

Hands Off H-1B Immigrant Workers: CAA Responds

CAA organized a Know Your Rights forum just as Trump slapped a new $100,000 fee on H-1B visa petitions, raising it by a whopping $95,000. The fee change immediately prompted chaos and confusion as immigrants with H-1Bs deplaned a flight from San Francisco to Dubai before its departure. This policy hurts everyone as many talented immigrant professionals like engineers, researchers, and healthcare workers make up a large percentage of our top research institutions and companies in the Bay Area.
